Spoiler alert: it involves very pretty vintage and estate jewelry
It’s been seven months since I’ve posted (but who’s counting? 🥴) — but with good reason, friends. Remember in my last post when I mentioned my love for vintage jewelry? Well, y’all, I’ve leaned in. After some education (and so much more to go), boots on the ground jewelry hunting, and a little bit of soul searching, I’ve decided to launch Fig & Gold, a vintage and estate jewelry business.
The Back Story
You won’t hear me say this many places, but this space feels different — a bit more personal — so here goes. The truth is that, for me, it’s a hard time to be selling trends. I love to shop and thought that it might be exciting to share my curations with you, but when I shop for myself, I know my parameters. I know that I will always work within a budget that’s responsible, I know what’s already in my closet, I know that I buy with cost per wear in mind, etc. If I worked with each and every one of you personally, I’d love to hear your parameters and curate fashion based on what works for you too. But when sharing online, dare I say, influencer style, I just felt like I was hocking stuffff in a time when a desire for stuff feels more stressful than joyful for many.
And that’s not to mention the exhausting sameness of fashion influencing. Now, I have never been a fashion influencer — not even close — but with a glut of online personalities suggesting what to wear, the perfect jeans, the latest must-have shoe, I just couldn’t jump into the fray, even with my tiny circle of influence, and feel good about it.
But vintage jewelry feels different.
Keep in mind that Fig & Gold is not in the business of trading in the uber expensive designer and signed stuff. Rather, I scour for quality, unique finds at auctions, flea markets, and in tiny stores discovered while traveling. I invest in pieces that are (relatively) affordable for the everyday woman and infinitely wearable. Yes, a $2500 ring is expensive, but it’s one-of-a-kind (hooray for personal style!), it’s sustainable luxury (pre-loved, nothing made new), and it’s a thoughtful investment that will hold it’s value (have you tracked the price of gold?!). Vintage jewelry is the opposite of a fancy pair of shoes that you’ll love for just one season before someone is trying to sell you another pair.
A piece will find you, you’ll fall in love, you’ll invest in it, wear it to death, and hopefully, pass it on. It’s the most beautiful and sustainable way to express personal style — and believe me, I’ve experimented with them all!
When I realized that I could build something that I love and feel good about around vintage jewelry, I knew that it was time to pull the trigger, even though it’s humbling to learn a brand new business at 50. Even though people will say, “But aren’t you a food writer?”
Where You can Find Fig & Gold
I’m taking it slow and determined to keep this a fun and engaging endeavor that connects me to people with whom I can have a relationship over time. I want to help you find pieces that you will pass down to your kids, nieces or nephews, and other loved ones. I want to hear what you’re looking for and see if I can find something special for you — and just you! I want to be in conversation, sell you only things you will cherish, and spend time with you, even if just virtually.
With this in mind, for now, most Fig & Gold sales will be in person in NYC (until I sell enough to justify pop-up’s in your city!). That said, I started a newsletter for The Golden Few: this isn’t a normal newsletter because, well, as you know, I’m not in a space where I am willing to promise a steady stream of content. 😜 Rather, The Golden Few is, for now, the one and only place where I will periodically sell pieces online. If you want the chance to see inventory that’s for sale, sign up.
I’m *hoping* to have my first online sale this weekend (12/13/25) in honor of the holidays, so sign up and stay tuned if you’re seriously interested.
You can also follow along on Instagram where I’m @figandgoldvintage. Allow me to repeat that I’m not promising a regular flow of content, but when I do post, it will be a piece that’s available. If you fall in love with something, you can always DM me or email hello@figandgold.com to learn more about it.
If I’m honest, I’m not sure that I’ll be able to manage Fig & Gold the way I hope to and also maintain this space, so if you’re really interested in following along, follow @figandgoldvintage and sign up for The Golden Few. Otherwise, feel free to stay here — it’s always free! — and I’ll pop in as I’m able.
Take good care, and happiest holidays.
